Carry On, Mr. Bowditch!
Excellent read! This is a book Tegan read for his book club and then Andy and I read it too. It's about a young boy who must give up his dreams of education when his dad signs him on as an indentured servant in a ship supply store. He continually overcomes the obstacles in his path and actually reaches his goal by following a road he would never have imagined would lead him there. His perseverance and attitude were a good lesson for us all to experience. This book had even more meaning as we had been watching the incredible "Horatio Hornblower" video series at the same time and were able to picture the sailing vessels and their crew as described in the book. It also reinforced our learning of Latin as Nat Bowditch learned several languages in his travels (including Latin) by translating the Book of John which is just what we're doing as we tackle Latin this year.
